Mestno občino Maribor je danes obiskal varuh človekovih pravic Republike Slovenije Peter Svetina. Slednji je poudaril, da je MO Maribor prva občina po epidemiji virusa covid-19, ki jo je obiskal. Zaradi specifičnih situacij v mestu pa Maribor obišče vsaj enkrat letno.
Delovanje varuha človekovih pravic obsega nadzor nad ravnanjem vseh vej oblasti v naši državi ter morebitnimi posebi v človekove pravice in temeljne svoboščine posameznikov.
V kabinetu varuha sta tudi dva namestnika dr. Jože Ruparčič in Marjeta Cotman, ki sta bila izbrana z glasovanjem s strani vlade RS.
Svetina je povedal, da so se z vodilnimi iz UKC MB pogovarjali o vsesplošni krizi na področju zdravstva.
Problem pa Sloveniji predstavlja tudi beg možganov oz. intelektualcev, ki bi lahko v prihodnosti veliko doprinesli k razvoju države na več ravneh.
Institucija varuha človekovih pravic je bila v slovenski ustavni sistem vpeljana z novo Ustavo RS, ki je bila sprejeta decembra 1991. Doslej so to funkcijo opravljali 4 strokovnjaki in trenutni Peter Svetina.
